What’s the catch with these lots with cabin/log house kits on a lake for a ridiculously low price?
I have been seeing them in our local paper and I know, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. So what is the catch?
Many of these “cabin/log home kits” require:
Building Permits-
Permits for Sewer Connection-
Plans an permits for septic sewer-
Construction of kits which is not always easy and often as expensive as conventional buildings.
Kits may not include foundation, roof, appliances, bathroom, telephone, electrical, water, heating fixtures or basic utility services.
Before you buy, retain a general contractor to provide you an estimate for a turn key completion including costs for a “Certificate of Occupancy”
Certain jurisdictions can have high initial construction costs in the tens of thousands of dollars for police and fire department services, schools, libraries and other administrative services. Check all these out BEFORE you buy the property. When all is said and computed, it is tyically cheaper to purchase an existing legal cabin than to purchase the kit.
